Corridor Project Phasing and Schedule

Due to cost, constructability, and time constraints, the Mill Creek Expressway project has been split into eight phases of construction. The following table provides a brief description of each phase, major milestone dates, and current status:

Construction is nearing completion. Work still left to complete is the placement of surface asphalt on SB 75, installation of final pavement markings, application of final seeding, remaining construction of ITS/Electrical systems, and concrete sealing. Contractor plans to start back to work the beginning of April, 2015.

I-75 from the Western Hills Viaduct to Monmouth overpass (includes the Hopple St. interchange)

Current work includes widening and rehabilitation of I-75 pavement, I-75/Hopple St. interchange improvements and bridge construction.

The following detours/MOT restrictions are in place on the project:

1. Eastbound Hopple to Northbound IR75 Ramp Closure:

  • a. Detour is EB Hopple to Connector Road to NB Central Parkway to NB IR75 via ramp by Cincinnati State

2. Westbound Hopple to Southbound IR75 Ramp Closure:

  • a. Detour for NB Central Parkway is WB on Marshall to NB on Colerain to EB on Hopple to SB75 via ramp

  • b. Detour SB Central Parkway and MLK/Connector Road is WB on Monmouth to SB on Colerain to EB on Hopple to SB75 via ramp. This will be detour after Colerain is reopened, South of Bates, due to MSD Stock Avenue Project. Their detour for this full closure changed ODOT’s detour. The current detour is SB Central Parkway and MLK/Connector Road is WB on Monmouth to SB Spring Grove to EB on Hopple to SB75 via ramp

3. MLK is permanently closed at the intersection of Central Parkway and Hopple:

  • a. Detour is the new Connector Road

4. Bates Avenue ramp to IR74W is permanently closed:

  • a. Detour is the new temporary ramp to IR74W from Central Parkway. This temporary ramp is located on the west side of Central Parkway between Monmouth and Clifton Hills. The temporary ramp is expected to close in the middle of April 2015. At this time, new Ramp E from the Hopple Bridge is expected to be open to IR74W.

I-75 mainline traffic is scheduled to be switched to a new construction phase May of 2015. This phase will involve shifting NB IR75 traffic to the east just south of the Hopple Interchange to the IR75/IR74 interchange. SB IR 75 traffic will be shifted such that two lanes are located on the NB side via contraflow lanes. The remaining two lanes of SB IR75 traffic will be shifted to the east. This is needed in order to reconstruct the new proposed SB lanes from just south of IR75/IR74 Interchange to the Hopple Interchange. Proposed Ramps A and B will be built at this time.

Final plan design activities are in progress. Current design is approximately 90% complete. Final plans are due to be completed by May 2016. R/W Acquisition is scheduled for completion by June 2015.

Replacement of RR Overpass South of Norwood Lateral

Project is under construction. Rail traffic has been moved to its temporary alignment. The existing bridge is being removed, and construction of new bridge is beginning.

I-75 Mainline from Mitchell Ave. to the Norwood Lateral

The construction project was awarded to the John R. Jurgensen Company on 5/29/14. Project is set to begin construction in May, with maintenance of traffic work beginning in April.

I-75 Mainline from the Norwood Lateral to Cross County Highway

Final design activities have started. The next design milestone is due in October 2014. Current design is approximately 85% complete. R/W acquisition is scheduled to begin in June 2014 and be completed by April 2016.

ODOT is participating and assisting this City-led effort by providing information on our projects in the Hamilton I-75 corridor. As results and recommendations are adopted by the City, ODOT will work with the various partners to incorporate them when feasible.
